Intro

Hi, I'm Ivo Pavlov and I'm a software engineer. Since a young age I have been very logic-minded. I always had a drive to know how things worked. I approach just about every aspect of my life with this mindset. I took anything and everything apart that I could, from household appliances, to cars and their parts. This eventually led me to my degree in molecular genetics, and now a career in software engineering.

I am based near Seattle, Washington in the Pacific Northwest, went to Washington State University, where I received my Bachelors of Science in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biotechnology in 2010, and worked in a high-throughput gene synthesis biotech. I attended a coding bootcamp based in Silicon Valley, with a less than 3% acceptance rate, and I have created projects implementing Ruby / Rails, SQL, JavaScript, React / Redux, MongoDB, Express, AWS, Cloudinary, GraphQL, Apollo, and other technologies.

In my free time I enjoy working on personal projects, testing out new technologies, cooking, reading, hiking, running with my dog, and spending quality time with friends and family over a good board game.

Mt. Pilchuck

One of my favorite hiking trails; the Mount Pilchuck Fire Lookout hike.

Board Game Night

The stakes are always high when you play the Game of Thrones (the board game).

Skills

I have a handful of full-stack skills using a variety of technologies. Some examples of my capabilities include making Picto-gram (an Instagram clone) using Ruby on Rails for the backend framework, with a PostgreSQL database, and React for the frontend, leveraging Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Solutions (AWS S3) for hosting user generated content. Yipp (a Yelp-inspired app) where dog owners can review other dog owner's pets and give them a rating based on their social interactions, implemented using the MERN stack, with Redux for state management, and MongoDB for image hosting. zBay, a combination of eBay and Zillow, was also constructed using the MERN stack, but relational data was fetched using GraphQL and state management was accomplished via Apollo. And finally, Jonkey Song is my JavaScript implementation of the arcade classic Donkey Kong.
